I’m not sure that I ever imagined announcing a book for Colin. My less announcing Delta: Ricochet would have a release day.
It’s a long story, and I’ll tell you why. But first, I have to share the purchase links.

Now back to story time.
I was asked to write Delta: Retribution (Delta, #1)* and agreed without putting much thought into it. It was a great opportunity to put the novella into a box set for new folks to read my work. No brainer, right? But then I realized that I needed to put together a new team.**
Titan’s main team took me years to pull together in my mind–but at the time, I was writing as a hobby. Now this was my job, and I needed to hop-to, but I soon learned that my creativity didn’t extend to naming characters quickly.
My answer? I pulled names from my real life. *gasp* Even my villains! That doesn’t mean that my bad guys are named after real bad guys, but I won’t say that every bad guy was named after a wonderful person…
Anyhow.
Colin. Have you ever known someone who stayed with you for years? Decades? And maybe you won’t hear from them in that time but you can still recall their laugh and smile, the way they made you feel, or the smallest detail like it was only a few weeks ago? For me, that was Colin.
He passed away far too early, and while I initially wanted to write a character just like him, a class clown who never saw a challenge he could walk away from, I couldn’t. I wanted to. I tried. But it wouldn’t be a love story. More like a tragedy because I couldn’t rewrite history in a romance novel.
So you have his smile, his hair, his eyes. The things that aren’t here anymore. But I wasn’t ready to put him into only one character. The person I knew inspired the title Ricochet, set the fire within Adelia to keep rolling no matter what, and gave the kind heart to Colin when the world saw a layer of toughness on the surface.
My real life Colin was my first real life kiss.
When you read Delta: Ricochet, you’ll know that we weren’t where they were and I was nothing like Adelia, but I had so many hesitations she did too (on a much different level). Kind words come from the most unexpected people and places. Heroes can be eighth grade skater boys or a military-romance hero. You just have to let them in.
Well, I’m a little teary but also smiling from my jog down memory lane.
