This Goodreads How To guide for authors covers connecting reviews, combining editions, and deleting books.
Goodreads How To: Combine Multiple Editions
If you have multiple editions, the author of a work can sign into their dashboard and combine editions.
As a Goodreads author, you can combine different editions of your work directly. This ensures all the ratings and reviews show up across all editions.
Just make sure you’re combining editions of the same work and not all your books! For example, combine the paperback and eBook edition, but don’t combine Book 1, Book 2, and Book 3 in a series into one work.
Goodreads How To: Change the Default Book Shown to Readers
Only Goodreads authors can adjust book lists to choose which book is the primary or default book shown to readers. To do this, follow these simple steps:
- Go to the book’s page and select the edition you wish to become the default / primary edition.
- Click on the option to “edit details” below the book description.
- Check the right side of the page and click “Set this book as the primary edition for this work.” Scroll to halfway down if you don’t see it at first.
- Make sure to click save!
Every book created on Goodreads stays on Goodreads unless a request is made to and approved by a Librarian. Deleting a book requires the help of a “super” library and can be found in the librarian resource center. Librarians can be found in their group.
A title is rarely deleting from the Goodreads database, and only when a manuscript was not published and won’t be. For example, I had a book listed in Goodreads called Capitol Secrets. I intended to write it several years ago, but my plans changed. This the only case situation Goodreads will delete a book because they want to be a historical database of books. This rule applies to out-of-print books.
