Military Romance: The Family Connection

Welcome Author Amber Addison!

A note from Cristin Harber: I’m thrilled to have award-winning author Amber Addison add her real life perspective and explain her influences and thoughts! Thank you!

If you’re reading this far, you’re probably a fan of Military Romance, right? Still with me? Love a man in uniform don’t you? Checking these boxes right along here, aren’t we? What’s your favorite branch?

I actually never thought I’d read or write Military Romance (Marine Little Sis here! Semper Fi!). Then I was invited to the Titan World and found The Air Force Pararescuemen and I mean really, do you have to have a favorite?

Sorry, I’m getting off topic. So we love a man in uniform. It’s hot. It’s really hot when they love their significant others, too. Fiercely. Without abandon. Zero you-know-what’s given. They do whatever it takes to keep the flame alive when they’re away. It’s hard. It’s not always pretty, but they get it done.

This is is what I like to call the family connection

It can lead to so many other super hot things. But it leads to other underlying things that we often miss in all the hot stuff because OMG SO HOT!

Sometimes we don’t see how hard it is for the ones left behind in our stories (and in real life). I don’t know if it’s because it’s not always written or because we just get lost in the hot. (LOL) But it’s truth in fiction that we don’t talk about enough.

Strong Romance Partners in Military Romance Novels

It makes our heroines so much stronger than we often give them credit for – because no matter how you love someone – sending them to war is really hard. It changes you. Whether they’re your friend or your brother or your lover, they take a piece of you with them when they go. Anyone who has sent someone to war knows the pang of worry that stays with you while they’re gone, and how we’re almost self taught to pretend we don’t have it. (And in some cases, we *are* taught to pretend we don’t have it.)

So to me, the family connection is big. And it makes the romance so much bigger. Because when you can love through that kind of heartbreak, you can weather any storm. The family connection is real. And when you look deep, it’s super hot.

Xo,

Author Amber Addison is a southern mama who writes about real life love in small town USA. She enjoys writing contemporary romance that has it’s ups and downs just like the trials that we face in our day to day. Love isn’t perfect and she doesn’t pretend that it is.

Amber writes anything from swoon worthy military guys to sexy soccer players. When she’s not writing about hot guys and strong women, she’s reading or cleaning up an endless trail of toys left behind by her dog and daughter or getting tattoos.
